Back to blogging

This month has been CRAZY!!!

The kids started school here on August 9th.  I was so busy trying to get the house cleaned and all the errands done before my foot surgery, that I forgot to take a first day of school photo.  Madison started 3rd grade and Kason is in 1st grade (sniff, sniff!)  I can't believe they are growing up so fast.  On the other hand, I can't wait until Tyler starts his preschool next week.

Madison is doing really well.  She learned to swallow the pills WHOLE!  Her mood is back to her normal self and she is back to reading biology books again.  We are so glad to see her enjoying life again.  She has several girls her age on our street that she hang's out with.  This past year she really didn't get along with her classmates or family, so I am glad for the medicine and diet that can help regulate her body and mind better.  We FINALLY heard back on her DNA testing.  She definitely has "a mild mutation of the OTC gene".  I am so grateful that this is mild in comparison to other kids.

Madison made a fundraiser box and started asking friends, neighbors, doctors and family to help her raise money for Children's Health care of Atlanta.  When we asked her why she didn't want to donate specifically to raising money for the urea cycle disorder foundation, she said, "I want to help ALL children."

Kason found a really awesome friend here in Georgia named Max.  They would play Lego's forever and just make up games and laugh.  It was so fun to see them play together.  Well Max's family moved this past week, so Kason has been really upset.  I hope he finds someone else that shares the same interests that he does.  Of course, he doesn't mind playing Pet Shops with all the girls on the street if he HAS to.  No complaints from him!  He is starting soccer next weekend, with Mike as coach.  He is really excited, but is realizing that Mommy's short gene isn't so fun for boys (sorry Kason!).  I told him how I used to play soccer that a height deficiency didn't slow me down at all.  Hopefully he remembers that on the field.

Tyler is well...just Tyler!  I don't know how else to explain him.  He has been better the last few weeks that Kason and Madison have been in school.  Tyler is king of the castle again.  As soon as Kason comes home, they start fighting!  He is very excited to start school next week.  We visited three schools this past spring for him.  One of them he hung to my leg the minute we walked in the building even before we met his potential teacher.  The second one he just said, "I don't want to go to this school."  The third one he walked right in and made himself comfortable right away.  Tyler is so random, but when it comes to spiritual matters he just KNOWS.  I have had to learn to trust him.

My good friend Gwen found out this summer that she had cervical cancer.  I was just talking to Tyler in the car and told him that we needed to pray for Gwen.  He said, "She's sick."  I didn't tell him that.  The morning of Gwen's operation to remove the cancer, I again said, "Let's say a prayer for Gwen."  He said, "She is going to be okay."  She is more than okay, they completely removed the cancer.

Kailyn makes me laugh, smile and shake my head at her every day.   She changes clothes at least 3 times a day (most of the time it does match).  She HAS to wear her pink jeweled flip flops every where (to the store, in the car, all around the house, to church, with her diaper AND to bed.)  She calls them her "Fip Fops"  She is starting to potty train and I am having a hard time catching her when she wants to remove her diaper.  She is crazy and will do seat drops on the trampoline.  One thing I love is that she started to give out real kisses.  She used to just let you kiss her.  She is talking non-stop and lets her brothers and sister know exactly what she wants and expects.
I had foot surgery on August 11th to repair a bunion on my left foot.  I haven't been able to exercise much this past year and have been waiting to get it done.  Since we definitely met our deductible this year with Madison, I got to schedule my surgery.  Mike took the first week off.  My dad was here to help 4 of those days too.  Then my wonderful in-laws came back to help out.  My mom is coming today to help and to see the kids.  Trying to hobble around after 4 kids is a lot tougher than I thought it would be.  I am so thankful for all the help.  Now if I can just get out of this oh-so-fashionable surgical shoe then I will be okay.

Mike somehow keeps chugging along.  He even said that "My job (as a SAHM) was easy!"  He had some monsters to deal with - taking care of me, Kailyn had pink eye, Madison got ring worm from the guinea pigs (they are gone now, but Madison's ring worm is just know clearing up, YUCK!), and cooked and cleaned.  It was great.  I did have to chuckle at the irony of it all.  I don't think I can schedule any surgeries any time soon.

A lot is happening there in Georgia! It is wonderful news about Madison.
How is your recovery?
Our kids started school a couple of weeks ago. It has been a great thing for all of us.
New experiences, teachers, schools, learning.
It's great to see you post.
