Madison's blood ammonia level is at 40 now, which is in a healthy range. Her ammonia levels are down, but now her liver enzymes increased. She had a ultrasound today and an EKG to look at her heart murmur. We haven't received these results yet. The doctor took her off of I.V. fluids today and decreased her medicine.
Now we are waiting to see what her ammonia levels do when she is off of the I.V. fluids and half the medicine.
The metabolic geneticist came in to see us today. Dr. Fernhoff is "the man" when it comes to genetics and we were hoping for the opportunity to pick his brain. He assured us that Madison will not suffer long term damage from this episode. She still isn't thinking quite as sharp as she used to be, but he said to give it a couple of days. The DNA testing will be done in the hospital, YEAH!!!! She will be in the hospital over the weekend and we will not go home without a diet plan.
She will be on a low if any protein diet with her medication daily so her ammonia levels stay normal.
I have a lot of the symptoms for female adult carriers and he said that they will test me as well this week. Finally, some answers!
